Rachels
Hamlet, bred by group member, Derek Woolhouse, has been a prime
example of the selection process.
He has been a growth and Beef Value trait leader since first
recorded. Hamlet
was purchased for group use, and his progeny have reflected his
superior growth. Ryedale
Napoleon, sired by Hamlet, had a 400-day weight of 732 kg.
With excellent conformation, he was the joint top price of
8,500 gns at Perth bull sales February 1999 and was sold to Scotsires
for AI use. He is now at Cogent.
Ronick
Iceman was purchased privately by White Rose in 1996.
Sired by Tarvis, an AI sire of many noteworthy females
in France, and out of the outstanding Broadmeadows Ainsi,
he, too, has become a proven breeder with easy calving, good growth
and excellent conformation in both bull and heifer progeny.
Rachels
Nimrod, sired by Ronick iceman, was purchased by the Ryedale
Herd as a calf-at-foot with his mother at a Rachels herd production
sale in 1997. We retained him as a stockbull as he has excellent
conformation and grwoth. Shown successfully in 1988, he was Interbreed
Junior Champion at the Great Yorkshire Show and in 1n 1999 he was
Interbreed Beefbreeder Champion at the the Royal Highland Show.
His calves calve easily and are showing great promise.
Due to an accident, Nimrod had to be put down in July 2000.
Saunders
Logo, a son of Daim,
was purchased by the Ryedale Herd as a l4 month old, having easily
won his Carlisle Sale class.
Bought for his excellent bloodlines and early promise, he
is leaving well-grown, well-muscled progeny, which have sold to
4,000 gns. The need to keep the number of stock bulls down
to 2 has resulted in Logo being sold to the Tomschoice herd.
Mereside Merlin,
an Imprudent son, was purchased at the Blackwood herd major reduction
sale as a replacement for Rachels Nimrod. New bloodlines and
BLUP figures together with his great conformation made him a natural
choice. His first calves with the Ryedale Herd are not due
until Autumn 2001. Merlin was Interbreed champion at Nantwich 1998
& 1999 and Reserve Overall Male Champion Royal Welsh Show 1998.
Ryedale
Orion, our home bred triple Royal Show champion, has proved
himself to be exceptionally fertile. He is currently standing
at stud at Cogent. Orion's first calves calved easily, have
great "get up and go" and have good conformation.
We are delighted with them.
